Little Acorns

January – February 2019

Welcome back and a Happy New Year to everybody.

We started the new term with art activities where the children could get creative with their feet. The theme of our artwork this term is ‘Big Fish, Little Fish’ and the children’s creations will be submitted to the 2019 School’s Art Competition when they are completed.

There were some very fishy activities too. Inspired by news from home that one of our children had received some fish as a Christmas present we set up a fish treasure hunt in the woods followed by fish related stories and songs in the nursery.

There was lots of mess at the sand table. The pupils have been exploring dry sand and wet sand and experimenting with moulding, pouring, and creating patterns with tools and their fingers.

We have been very active in gym sessions and there have been many opportunities to practise bike skills around the school.

Our work on the RSPB Wild Challenge continued with our special sensory Millennium Woods bird-watch. We had been for a walk in the woods and we could hear lots of birds , but they was far too high up in the trees for us to see. Therefore, we used photographs and toy birds hidden in the trees that the children could find and touch. We also recorded a variety of bird songs on Big Macs and Big Point devices so that children could listen to the corresponding sounds.
