Keeping Active is very important to us here at Oaklands. We are lucky to have a fabulous Sports Coach as well as several excellent Rebound Therapists. Pupils have opportunities to take part in a wide range of sports activities each week including swimming, cycling, Rebound, circuits, boccia, curling and playground gym games.
We have a large number of adapted bikes to suit the needs of individual pupils. As well as trikes and walking bikes, we have fully supportive wheelchair bikes enabling even our less mobile pupils to get out and about around the local cycle paths.
We now have two large trampolines set up in school and offer Rebound sessions to many of our pupils. Pupils have a great time bouncing at their own pace, fully supported by trained staff. As well as having a great time, pupils also benefit from improved tone, mobility and emotional regulation skills.
Rebound
Rebound Therapy continues to be an important part of our curriculum at Oaklands School.
This year over 60% of our children and young people have had the opportunity to experience a session (or block of sessions) on our full-sized trampolines.
The sessions are encouraged by the use of familiar songs and music and some children can work on aspects of their MOVE programme. For others, it is a time for relaxation and enjoyment.
We’ve also had success using the trampolines for our youngsters with sensory processing needs. It can be great to start the day with a bounce and a song.
Recently we held national rebound training in school and managed to train two additional members of staff as Rebound Therapists.
Rebound Therapy is establishing itself as an important part of our school curriculum with many benefits for our children and young people.
