Little Acorns

September 2017

We started the new session with an exciting visit to the Jupiter Artland. The children were able to experience different art exhibitions in the woods and they all liked the spider’s web because they were able to touch it.

This term our focus for learning is the seasons, and as August drew to an end the pupils had the opportunity to investigate sunflowers. There were real sunflowers to explore and then we made our own using willow collected from the willow tunnel in the garden which was bent into the shape of petals and covered in tissue paper. The centre of the flower was made with orange lentils which provided a different texture.

Next, inspired by the book ‘Skip through the Seasons’ we were straight into autumn with more sensory art activities with leaves, paint, paper, handprints and of course more glue. This is an ongoing project which will develop over the next few months.

The pupils have enjoyed a variety of different experiences in school this month, including our Tatty Bumpkin Yoga sessions which give us all the chance for some stretching and relaxing. Lots of physical and visual stimulation has been provided by the new programmes on our Magic Carpet; with the flowers, bubbles and the smiley faces being particular favourites.
