We hope all of our families have an enjoyable February Break and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on the 19th!

On Wednesday 7th February over a 100 pupils from 10 additional support needs schools participated in the Active Schools Dance Festival, hosted by Oaklands School. It was an amazing morning and fantastic to see such a wide and varied selection of dances on show. It was evident from the performances that everyone had fun not only performing on the day but learning their dance moves over the past few weeks. We were very lucky to be given the opportunity to work with Dance Division who helped choreograph dances for 7 of the Schools. This enabled Oaklands to enter two dance groups this year.
Our Active Group opened the show with a colourful and creative performance to the Justin Timberlake song- Can’t Stop The Feeling. Whilst our Wheelchair Dance group closed the show by performing two of their favourite dances and had the 170 people in the hall bouncing to The Canadian Barn Dance and Tell Me Ma. It was fantastic to see so many of our schools represented and have our friends from Fairview School in Perth join us for the day.
Well Done and Thank you to everyone who helped put on the best Dance Show in town!
Oaklands secondary and a number of Oaklands primary pupils enjoyed a relaxed performance of this year’s Kings Theatre Panto, Cinderella. The pupils had the opportunity to experience the show and take part in the holiday activity thanks to Cash for Kids, who sponsored the show, and the cast and crew of Cinderella as well as the Kings Theatre staff, who made sure that the needs of Oaklands pupils and others were met. Pupils (and staff) were also offered a variety of ice creams courtesy of Rowan Glen.
Oaklands are again hosting the Lothian Regional Dance Festival.
We have around 150 guests from 10 schools coming along to Oaklands on Wednesday 7Th February to participate in what has become the best Dance Festival in the Region. We have special guests popping down to perform with us from Fairview School in Perth as well as Broughton High School Dance Group.
This year we have two groups creating and experiencing dance:

On Friday 19th January we were very lucky to be joined by Elaine and John Wylie (Elaine was the founder of the Daily Mile).
They joined us for our morning assembly where they heard about our journey so far and met with our young people and staff to hear now the Daily Mile is making a difference.
They were blown away by the capability, enthusiasm and determination within the Oaklands Community.
We are proud to say that all of our pupils have been able to take part. Some of our youngsters were able to participate through the use of the innowalk machine (that we had on trial) others have used a variety of walking aids or individualised support.
We have set ourselves a challenge to walk 500 miles in a school year. Something we think is well within our capability.

We have achieved a new followers record! We have 100 followers now.

To celebrate it we want to share a lovely video with all of you. This is a video that we made last year for the Edinburgh “Awfey Huge Variety Show”. See what we can do in our amazing and modern city!
