Fantastic News! Class 2 has won 2nd Prize in the National Galleries School Art Competition (out of over 8000 entries)!
The theme for the competition was ‘Hair, Fur and Feathers’ and all pupils have been enjoying working together doing lots of printing, painting and collage work to create ‘Pegasus’ a large collage piece.
The winning entries will be framed and displayed at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art – Modern ONE from 28th May to 16th September 2018.
Winning pupils and their guests are invited to the prize-awarding ceremony on Saturday 23rd June.
We cannot wait to see it framed and hanging in the Art Gallery.
We hope as many of our Oaklands friends as possible will manage to view the art work in pride of place in the gallery.
Well done to all in Class 2!
Angela, Expressive Arts Teacher (and general Oaklands arts guru!)

Circus….
Today, Oaklands pupils and staff celebrated another wonderful year of MOVE.
We held a fantastic circus themed extravaganza featuring acts such as: Lion Tamers, Silly Clowns, Strongmen, Ballet Dancers and Acrobats to name a few!
Blythe and Ross did a brilliant job as our Ringmasters, introducing each act in style.
A variety of MOVE skills were on show with pupils moving as independently as possible in their own unique way using walkers, standing frames and bikes.
The MOVE programme, led by our dedicated physio, Anke and her MOVE team is a hugely valuable programme that many of our young people participate in on a daily basis. The Oaklands Circus was the perfect way to celebrate all the pupils have achieved this year.
Thank you to everyone for the hard work and effort put into making the Oaklands Circus a success. Feedback from our audience was extremely positive!
As you may know, Oaklands is already a certified Centre of Excellence for MOVE. This accolade alongside all the fundraising that has been going on for our Innowalk campaign is a true reflection of the wonderful Oaklands community and the great things we can achieve together.

Our Virtual Marathon Journey is most definitely over.
For those of you who were unable to attend the medal ceremony on Friday, the fantastic news is that we raised over £3500 due to the amazing commitment and generosity of the marathon participants.
We’ve had many messages of support and in total we had over 220 people participate.
Many, many thanks to everyone and please see photo below of just a few of our virtual marathon participants as they received their medals! Well done to all!

Hope you didn’t forget to put your clocks forward on Saturday?
I don’t know what time it is where you are, but at Oaklands, It’s Innowalk o’clock!

Yes, it’s here! The first (proud) school in Scotland to have an Innowalk! Many of our younger and smaller pupils will see significant benefits from being able to use this regularly.
Although this one was bought due to a budget rearrangement, we’re very hopeful that our fantastic fundraising campaign, coupled with impending charitable trust status will mean that we are able to raise enough to buy a larger Innowalk for our older and taller pupils.
#WalkTallWithOaklands

Wow! What a night it was!
Team Oaklands was at its very best last night when our community came together to raise an incredible £1700 for our #WalkTallWithOaklands, Innowalk fundraising campaign.
Thanks to everyone who came along, sponsored a horse, or race, or contributed in some way to an amazing night last night.
From Leila’s dad’s handstand, to Sophie and Ellen’s enthusiastic comparing, to ‘race horse’ Anke being ‘bought’ for £200 by Jude, a lovely friend of Oaklands.
It was a night full of joy, laughter and pride in our wonderful Team Oaklands.
Huge THANK YOUS to:
Same time next year anyone?!
