The staff and pupils at Oaklands welcome you warmly to our first ‘Bring Our Adults To School’ Day (B.O.A.T.S.)!
This is an opportunity for you to meet the staff team in your child’s class in an informal manner and to participate in a Circle Time lesson in a relaxed and friendly setting. The aim of the morning is to give parents and carers an opportunity to ‘put names to faces’ and to share in a positive learning experience with their child.
All family members are welcome to join us, but we may need to limit numbers for individual families depending on demand. Tea and coffee will be served in the hall from 9.00am. At 9.30, you will be given the opportunity to join your child in class for a special Circle Time. The session will finish at 10.15 when you will be invited to join the Senior Management Team in the hall for further refreshments.
The first Parent Council meeting of the year will take place at Oaklands on Thursday 31st August at 6.30pm.
All parents and carers are welcome to come along. This is a really good opportunity to support the school and get a better understanding of how the school is run.
We hope many of you will be able to join us for our first Oaklands fundraising event of the school year, a Fringe performance from ‘Out of the Blue’ – a fantastic comedy/a cappella group. It will take place on Friday 25th August at 7pm.
Expect vocal acrobatics, an eclectic repertoire and much laughter!
Look out for more information coming home with your child during the week. Tickets are priced at £10 and need to be ordered in advance via the school. Please contact the school office on 0131 315 8100 for further details.
Please find attached information about free learning events for carers.
Voice of Carers Across Lothian have a range of courses and seminars that promote good health and wellbeing for carers like Anxiety Management, Dealing with Guilt, Stress Management, Connection, Choice and Change and Anger Management.
Evaluation has proven that carers feel more confident, have increased understanding, are better able to cope with their caring role and are able to care in a way that is safe and effective for both carers and the person they support.
VOCAL’s courses and seminars give carers the opportunity to hear from experts, ask questions a chance to chat and discuss the training session. They can provide assistance with carer’s costs for transport and care if necessary. Please review the enclosed PDF document or visit www.edinburghcarers.org.uk or www.carerevents.co.uk if you would like hard copies of this document please call us on 0131 622 6666.
This song signifier can be song when someone is going out on a trip – to the shops, to the library, to the beach etc. It can be sung to help the individual get on the bus (or the car – see below) (i.e. reassure them that they ARE going somewhere) and then, if needed, once on the bus, a second song signifier can be sung to help them understand where they are going (e.g. you might follow up with the “Swimming” song signifier).
If they are travelling by car, you could substitute “on the bus” with “in the car”, and sign car, instead of bus.
