PERFORMING ARTS

Our Performing Arts teachers are Angela Harrison and Jacqueline Wheble. Keep an eye on this page to see what our pupils get up to in Performing Arts this year.

February 2026

Everyone is enjoying our new theme, Winter/Spring Garden.  One side of the hall is all icy and snowy with the lovely new fairy lights donated from John Lewis.  Walk through the curtain and the garden is growing already with flower mobiles, a grass mat and bulbs to plant.  In the drama, ‘What’s in the garden?’, we choose the weather – everyone laughs when it rains on them.

In art we’ve made felted flowers and started to build a giant sculpture with twigs and branches.  We all loved painting on ice and made pictures with ice that had paint inside.  The lovely patterns we made were then transformed into magical flowers and added to the flower wall.

We’ve been working hard on the Qualifications Scotland modules with our older learners, who are choosing their favourite instruments and then their favourite songs to play along to. These teenagers make some very cool choices in music. What a busy term so far!

December 2025

We launched the term in the party spirit with our new theme ‘Let’s Party’  which involved pass the parcel, opening boxes to find fun, party things and ended with a conga dance.  The hall was themed around the colours, red, white, silver and green with lots to explore. We also practised our dances and dramas for ‘Christmas Songs around the World’.  Each class picked a country and a song, and we’ve had so much fun developing the performances.

One of our classes visited Jupiter Art Land and explored some of the sculptures, having great fun looking at their reflections in the mirrors of one of the installations.

At the end of October we had an amazing theatre experience when the Moon Beam company performed ‘Exploshine’. Everyone who attended loved the singing bowls and beautiful singing.

The icing on the cake was one of our pupils, Frankie, winning the Edinburgh Council Christmas Card competition and his design was picked by the Lord Provost as his own Christmas card.

A new term, a new theme ……. wait for it…. ‘Let’s Party!’

As always, we have transformed the hall, this time focussing on the colours RED, GREEN, WHITE and SILVER. All classes are enjoying the switching toys, pass the parcel in drama, choreographed dancing and lots of musical activities. We’re having lots of fun looking in the mirror at the dressing up table and taking part in many physical opportunities. We also had some brilliant trips at the beginning of term where we went to see the festival show ‘You’re an Instrument’. The young people enjoyed being out in the community mixing with other primary schools and embracing the theatre atmosphere.
