Aspen Class

May 2017

We travelled 25 miles from Oaklands School in 2 buses to see the Kelpies near Falkirk towards the end of May. It was an overcast day, but that did not stop us being excited about our visit. It was warm and we enjoyed seeing other people admiring the art, just as we did. There were a few school groups doing exactly the same as we were doing – wandering around with adults, smiling and looking up at 2 men brushing the kelpies teeth! The other kids were drawing the horses’ heads, but we spent our time smiling at the wonder of it all.

We had a great social lunch at picnic tables outside, watching the houseboats on the canal, and, of course, the canal itself. It was not hard to imagine that, in days gone by, folk used the canal to transport what they had grown or made, from one part of Scotland to another. They used horses along the canal banks to help them pull the boats.
